The class, Applied Production for Digital Media (ARTDM 195), is not a typical college class. The student-run business operated by the students in this class exposes students to real world client interactions, and offers students an opportunity to apply the skills they have gained in the multimedia program to real world situations.

If you are a student with digital media skills that you have developed independently or in the classroom, this class gives you the opportunity to apply and refine your skills to address the needs of the business world. Students from the Business Internship Program frequently go on to successful freelance careers in various areas of the design industry.

Students are allowed to take the ARTDM 195 class as many as 4 times. The first semester that a student takes the class they are acclimated to the culture of the class and evaluated with regard to their ability to effectively address client needs.

In this class setting students not only learn how to apply their multimedia skills to address client needs but they also are exposed to a vibrant entrepreneurial culture. Students who commit themselves to the Business Internship Program find themselves uniquely prepared for the demands of a career in Multimedia.

"This class has helped me learn and understand how to work with clients and how to work better in groups. It has helped me develop a portfolio and understand the industries in multimedia. I will be much more ready to enter the industry myself because of this class."
George Wyman, student

"This is a very valuable class for anyone interested in pursuing design/production as a career. I am very glad that I took this class because I learned invaluable skills that will be beneficial to my career. Before I took this class, I had no knowledge of how a design business works, how to interact with clients, or how to create proposals or contracts. Now, I feel like I have a good understanding of all of these things. Additionally, I feel as though my design skills have increased since the beginning of semester. Talking to clients and being surrounded by other student designers and their designs greatly influenced my own. They inspired me to create better designs and opened my eyes to new possibilities. All of these things have brought me many steps closer to becoming a working designer."
Alison Kim, student

"This is the second semester I've taken this class. I come back because I really get a chance to learn how to deal with the real client, which is what I want. Now I have an idea of how to start a small design business. After these two semesters, I now have more confidence to work for a design firm or even start my own business."
Ada Leung, student
